Welcome Meeting

6th Setpember 2021 (12pm) Zoom Welcome Meeting 1


Today I participated in my first group Zoom of module 3. It was a good feeling to be back and to see some familiar faces and also welcome the new module 1’s to the course.


Surprisingly my wifi held up and I was able to clearly hear the discussion! So yey! 


Helen gave us a reminder tour of the uni hub and we had a meet and greet with some of the uni staff and course students.


One reflection that I did make was how comfortable I felt in the zoom and I remembered how confused and uncomfortable I felt this time last year as a module 1 and how far I have come since then! So any module 1 students reading this… I promise it gets much easier and will eventually all make sense!


Helen discussed the 3 pillars of support from the course 


  1. Course Handbook
  2. Module Handbooks
  3. Supervisor 


Helen described the supervisor role as a 'critical friend'.

Something I didn’t make the most of in module 1 was my supervisions with Helen, but in module 2 I did and I promise they are so helpful, so please don’t be worried and just book your supervisions in and ask all the questions! No question is a silly question and it will make you feel so much more comfortable and confident in what you are doing!

    Hi Emily, I was drawn to your blog as I was excited to see someone else on the call yesterday who's also working on board alongside this degree! (I feel your pain with the wifi- you don't want to know how much I spent on it yesterday 😅) I'm so pleased for you, to hear you're back out doing what you love! All the best for your final term, although it may be challenging to juggle your responsibilities out there with our work, I'm sure it must be super beneficial being able to discuss it with like minded creatives in person! Also I can relate to what you said about being more relaxed with the zoom calls compared to Module 1; hopefully I won't stress as much, as time goes on too!

      Hi Larissa! It's so funny as soon as I saw your background on the Skype call I know you were on a ship from the railings haha!! Congrats on the job! Yes I am lucky as I will interview some of my team for my research project so it will take a huge pressure of me having to rely on Internet connection! I was scared to turn my camera on incase it crashed my Skype call haha!!! It's certainly going to test out patience!!

    Congratulations on your contract and for being back at sea! Exciting. It was nice to connect with everyone again on the Welcome Back Call and get back into study mode. Good luck for Module 3! Looking forward to reading more of your blogs.

      Good luck for module 2! It's a big jump from module 1 but I think actually makes sense with how you go about it all!! I am looking forward to completely the course! :)
