I am excited to get my head stuck into some books again and continue this journey!
A lot has happened in my life recently and I am now living in Brasil until May, so I will be doing this whole module here! I need to be extra organised and get my head around the time zones for all our BAPP skypes.
So far from talking to peers on the course and looking over the handbook I feel like I am back at the beginning and it all feels so daunting again! I felt like this at the start of module 1 and we all managed to get through that… so I am sure we will conquer this too!
Tonights welcome back Skype I felt was a great way to get my head back into ‘uni-mode’ and it was lovely to see everyone again and of course welcome the module 1s onto the course.
Helen made some great points about just delving into the course and yourself as an artist. She spoke about how some of us may feel distant because of the current pandemic, which is something I really resonate with. It’s coming up to a year since I last performed on a stage… the longest probably since I was a child and certainly the longest in my professional career. I keep questioning what am I doing with my life or when will this all end (I am sure we all have these thoughts) but we have to remind ourselves that we are not wasting our time, we are doing this course and discovering more about ourselves as artists and bettering our understanding on the beautiful industry that we adore!
We went over everything on unihub and were reminded of how we can use our blogs to be honest, support each other, spark discussion and interest, to aid our study.
I look forward to exploring everyones blog pages over the next 12 weeks
Emily :) x
Is this the new normal? This is me taking my first ever ballet class in Brasil on Wednesday...the first time dancing in an actual studio since last March!
Oh Emily. I totally feel you, and although i didnt have a world wide pandemic to stop me as a performer, i was stumped at the height of my career for personal reason and i know the feeling can be very unsetteling. But these times will pass and as long as you keep yourself healthy and happy thats the main thing. Maybe being in Brasil will be easier to do this. At least you will be with your man and thats the main thing . I am no way a wise owl but have a few years on you, and what i do regret is just living for the moment,... i was always worried what the next step is. Don't get me wrong...i still do not have this balance completely right but i'm getting there. Happy to have made a friend in you and hope you have a lovely time in the sun, as i know my sister told me its insanely hot some days in ARG. We are all freezing and miserable over here so i wouldn't rush back if it was me.. xx take care x
ReplyDeleteAwww this was the best to wake up to!! Thanks Clare I am glad to have met you too!! Yes I must admit its something I always try and tell myself to take every day as it comes (which at times I get good at) but I am grateful to least have this course to give me a focus on at the moment!! And yes there are plenty of positives for being out here! Can't wait to tackle this journey with you!!! Here's to mod 2!!!!!

DeleteHi Emily, what a change you are having to go through being in Brazil this time round, but I'm sure you will be able to use your transferable skills to manage this situation! I really enjoyed reading your blog and can relate to feeling so distant from the industry at the moment. But we are so lucky to have this opportunity to better our practice without directly do what we love. Also, I love the picture from your Ballet class! Was it an added challenge keeping that mask on for the entire class? Looking forward to reading your blogs this term x
ReplyDeleteThanks Alice, It was certainly the hottest ballet class I have ever done, but strangely the mask didn't bother me too much! I think this will be the new normal! Even performing in masks too!!
DeleteYes we have to look at the positives that we are using this time wisely! I can't wait to continue to follow your journey!
I think you might be right... at least we don't have to worry about lipstick haha! Can't wait to keep following your journey too :)
DeleteHi Emily. I am the same its been nearly 2 years for me! I was in the middle of a six month break from performing due to back a back injury and just when I was about ready to go back the pandemic and all the lockdowns happened. Exciting that your in Brazil, I couldn't imagine what it would be like performing with a mask on.
ReplyDeleteAwww bless you I am glad your back is much better now! I think 2020 was a write off for most performers wasn't it! I hope we will be back on stage soon or atleast this year!! It's strange the gyms are open in Brasil too so I think I am getting used to sweating and breathing heavy in a mask! I hope it's not the new normal though haha! It would be strange to not see each others facial expressions on stage!
DeleteLoved this post Emily and a great reminder that even though it can feel bleak at times and we wonder when we can be back on stage, we are ultimately using this time for a better purpose and developing ourselves for the whole future not just for the now. I think you'll always remember Module 2 given you're completing it in Brazil and maybe you'll find inspiration that you never would have had over here! x
ReplyDeleteYes I have to tell myself this daily! We are working towards our futures and thats amazing!!!
DeleteThank you! Its hard at the moment to get into swing of things not being at home at my desk in my room but I am working with it haha
