Today I felt guilty over not doing any uni work this weekend and after having an unexpected MANIC Monday, I decided I wanted to be productive this evening, without having to read text and after text... as quite honestly my brain can’t take it today….
I remember some students saying that there was video on uni hub that explains how the MORE form works. It’s a recorded Skype session, that goes through the form step by step and the supervisors answer some of the previous students questions.
I actually found this so helpful and informative. It was always my plan this week to pull up the MORE form to start to look at questions that I need to answer to be able to write my inquiry proposal.
Much to my surprise a lot of the form seems to be straight forward and theres many multiple choice questions where we just tick whats relevant to our inquiry.
A few things I wrote in my notes were :
-The MORE form is always considered a new application- even when your supervisor has given you feedback to adjust things, you still tick new application and not resubmission!
-The tutors will keep ‘rejecting’ your MORE form, enabling you to keep editing and refining the form, right up until you are ready for your final submission. So don’t be put off by that!
-Your supervisor will be the principle investigator, not you!
-We class our area as ‘arts and creative industries’ (this one is kinder obvious)
-We have to add (BAPP) after our inquiry titles on section 2.1a and 2.1b
-The proposal dates we enter are the dates of our module 3 term, which we will find in the academic calendar.
-The MORE form helps us structure our inquiry - specific questions that we will answer can go directly into your proposal essay. Its suggested to have a word doc open at the same time, to literally help you out and avoid having to type things out twice and to record what you have said!
-The answer to question 2.6, will be about how our inquiry will benefit the development of our professional practise.
-The interviewees should remain anonymous - any information gathered should only be relevant to our inquiry. For example you could say - I have selected this person to interview because they have experience as a professional dancer... or they are a performing arts teacher etc...
We also have to have consent forms for the interviewees, which should really only have their name and signature on them. You don’t want to go about collecting other information!

What I took away from this lecture was we should be questioning everything we do in this inquiry and WHY and HOW? Question our methods, question our assumptions, question our ethics. What could go wrong? How could we upset people? What potential issues could happen?
I hope this blog is helpful to anyone feeling as lost as I was about this form and I urge you all to watch or rewatch the Skype and hopefully we will get our own session to ask further questions!

ReplyDeleteHi Emily, thank you very helpful. I started off a process where I had the video on one page and my own more form open in the other and tried to go through as Helen was saying things. I did come to a point where I had to stop and go back so its helpful that there is a vid. There is also a few changes I think to the new form that we have so this might be a bit more tricky to answer but we can only do our best I suppose x

ReplyDeleteI really found the video helpful and your blog to now go alongside it is only going to help more! There were a few points in it that I wish the video hadn't skipped over but as pointed out by the supervisors, just fill it out as best as you can and then they can send it back to make tweaks! Definitely important to not leave this until the last minute so well done for getting it started xx
