All Module Skype 17th and Module 2 Skype 18th Feb

Wow two skypes in two days! It’s actually been so nice to chat with everyone, firstly in the all module skype last night and again just now with the module 2 skype. It’s lovely to be reminded that we aren’t alone and that theres a lot of support and amasing ideas to be shared…

Something I know I personally need to look into more is ethics and from learning about module 2 already it’s unavoidable to not think about them whilst planning our inquiries.

A lovely module 3 student broke down ‘Ethical Considerations’ and ‘Ethical Procedures’ to us in such a simple way that I found so helpful.

Ethical Considerations - Things that will be affected / consequences of actions

Ethical Procedures - Things that are put into place to avoid a negative impact / or harm

Helen said to think about the ethics in our inquiry and what procedures we can put into place to avoid any negative impacts. However that be said, she said, we can only plan so much and that we always have to accept an amount of uncertainty. We just need to cover ourselves as much as we can!

Module 2 focus

Module 2 is about developing a proposal for an inquiry that we will conduct in module 3.

This is the planning module!

This is a 12 week inquiry project, so what we propose needs to be manageable. We aren’t aiming to find an answer, we are looking to explore a topic within our field of practise in greater depth.

Something that I am going to start to do, now that I have a rough idea on my topic and a rough idea of what my methodologies, will be to look over the intimidating MORE form. Helen said a great approach is to open the form and then open a word document and answer the questions on the MORE form by typing them into word first. Helen said that we will be using the same answers when writing out proposal, so it will be simple to then copy and paste our answers from word when we start to write our essays.

Module 2 still seems like a huge mountain that I have to climb and during this skype it was suggested to go back to the 3 key texts on the reading list to learn about methods of research more... so thats my next plan to revisit them...

  1. Great summary blog Emily, thank you for sharing this - especially the ethical considerations and procedures because this didn't come up in the earlier meeting but that is extremely useful to know and I'm pretty sure you've saved some internal panic!
I definitely need to brace myself and take a look at the MORE form as I haven't touched it yet but your point on typing answers into Word first is really good to remember!
I agree it seems like there's a LOT to do but we will get there and I think when we have a better understanding of research, we will be able to develop our question, and that will make the work much easier to filter through! x

    1. Yes starting next week I am going to pull it up and have a look! I also think there is a Skype on uni hub recorded that shows you have to fill in the more form! So that's worth watching!!!

  2. This is a great summary blog Emily! I feel like I'm in the same position as you when it comes to ethics, its something I know I only briefly touched on in Module 1 and as you said it's going to be unavoidable in Module 2. Looking forward to seeing if you have any more thoughts on them after researching them a bit more - I'm hoping to do a blog on my findings soon ! Good luck xx

    1. Yes I think I wouldn't state the obvious with my ethics in module 1, as I thought they were too obvious (if that makes sense)! Because the right and wrong thing to do or consider for a decent person should just come easy! Haha but I think we have to literally write them down to show we know! As well as the blogs and BAPP facebook we have a module 2 what's app group that I have found so beneficial if you fancy joining!! It's a great way to support each other and ask quick questions

  3. Hi Emily, great blog! I especially liked the way you have explained ethics. I really struggled to get my head around ethics last term, so thank you for sharing. I agree, it definitely feels like we have a big mountain to climb, and it's hard to know what we need to do next. But I think I will also look at the MORE form soon, it may help us understand where all our research is leading us to x

    1. Thanks if I remember correctly it was Hannah from Mod 3 who provided us with that definition which I found super helpful and straight forward!
Good luck with the More form, I remember someone saying there's a video on unihub explaining how to do it!!

  4. Hi Emily,
This is a great blog, you managed to summarise all the key information in a clear way, something I think can help us all in Module 2 as there seems to be so much to do! I also am going to try and figure out the MORE form, and Helen's suggestion was amazingly helpful. I also think it's really impressive how you are navigating time zones etc whilst being in Brazil, I did the first module whilst in Italy and found the 1 hour time difference difficult enough! Best of luck! x

    1. Hi Alys! Thank you :)! Yes I found Helens tip sooo helpful and it will save us so much time instead of trying to remember what we put and then typing it twice so I was greatful for this as well!
Haha I always finding myself triple checking the times to make sure I've worked it out right haha! The only thing I am struggling with is the Sunday student skypes as they always seem to happen when we are out or in the middle of our day! But apart from that finding a peaceful place to study is the hardest task!! Haha

  5. Hi Emily,
Sorry I've only just got round to reading this as I was looking through people's blogs to refresh myself regarding the structure and going back to basics a bit really.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and your notes, there are some really crucial bits in here to remember! So thank you!!! I also wrote a blog after this call and i'll add my link in too. https://laurenslater-klein.blogspot.com/2021/02/breaking-it-down-how-will-i-approach.html
I've also read your blog on the writing discussion group too which was equally informative. If you have time take a look at mine too. https://laurenslater-klein.blogspot.com/2021/03/writing-with-peter-thomas-locate.html
It's really inspiring to see your progress and it seems like you're very good at analyzing too already, I really struggle with this, especially doing it at speed. So well done! Thanks again for sharing.
best of luck with the continuation of your work, Lauren x

AM BAPP Twillight Nov 25th Skype - Summerising

Summerising ‘Summarising is defined as taking a lot of information and creating a condensed version that covers the main points.’ Yourdictionary.com. 2020. SUMMARIZING | 2 Definitions Of Summarizing - Yourdictionary . [online] Available at: <https://www.yourdictionary.com/summarizing> [Accessed 26 November 2020]. Todays Skype was about summarising what we are working on at the moment. For module 1, this is our essay and our artefact reflecting on our practise. I must admit, I listened to a lot of this session and I found it particulary interesting to listen to the module 3 students talking about their final projects and artefacts! Adesola explained that the artefact is just a different way of communicating and expressing what we have written in our essays. She explained that you should be able to look at someones essay and their artefact and know that they are linked and are reflection of each other. Obviously I have been busy making my artefact and I feel like the more time I sp...

Questions, questions, questions?

TWILIGHT SKYPE  8:15am 23rd September To begin the group Skype session Adesola started with speaking about the structure of a discussion. She spoke about how there are techniques on how to have a discussion. A discussion isn't someone stating an opinion and someone agreeing or disagreeing with it. You have to question that person and add on layers to the conversation. You must give an open answer and not block the flow of the discussion. Adesola gave a great visual example about building a tetris and everyone putting all the different layers together. During the Skypes we need to be present and engaged and remember they are learning experiences and no one is there to be judgemental. The discussion then moved on to what " starting " means in reference to the course...      1. Starting in an outside perspective My conclusion to this was physically starting the course. How we enrolled and have written down key dates and attended some Skypes, maybe written some blogs. Wh...
