Module 1 Focus Skype- 28th September

Module 1 Focus Group, 28th September  Tonight we had a very valuable Skype session where we shared, contributed, developed and debated lots of ideas. I feel like from all the ideas and information shared tonight, I may have to make a few different blogs to cover all the topics discussed! We started with the 3 Lenses from our Handbook 1. Communication of ideas (including Web 2.0) 2. Reflection, Ethics and Reflexivity 3. Networks, Community and Connectivisum I thought I would start by touching on what is web 2.0 ? After visiting many websites and watching some videos I have summarised that Web 2.0 represents a web where information transfer a two-way street. The two way communication means that users can communicate with other users on the websites and platforms and share their opinions and information. It bridges the gap between the online users. ‘Web 2.0 marked an era where we weren't just using the internet as a tool anymore—we were becoming a part of it.’ References   Techop...

Questions, questions, questions?

TWILIGHT SKYPE  8:15am 23rd September To begin the group Skype session Adesola started with speaking about the structure of a discussion. She spoke about how there are techniques on how to have a discussion. A discussion isn't someone stating an opinion and someone agreeing or disagreeing with it. You have to question that person and add on layers to the conversation. You must give an open answer and not block the flow of the discussion. Adesola gave a great visual example about building a tetris and everyone putting all the different layers together. During the Skypes we need to be present and engaged and remember they are learning experiences and no one is there to be judgemental. The discussion then moved on to what " starting " means in reference to the course...      1. Starting in an outside perspective My conclusion to this was physically starting the course. How we enrolled and have written down key dates and attended some Skypes, maybe written some blogs. Wh...

The Social Dilemma

The Social Dilemma 21st of September I love Netflix! Getting all cosy in bed and watching a great series or film is something that I look forward to most nights! Tonight, I decided to watch the new documentary on Netflix called ‘the social dilemma’ - ‘This documentary- drama hybrid explores the dangerous human impact of social networking, with the tech experts sounding the alarm on their own creations’.  I also would say I am slightly addicted to checking Instagram, whats app and Facebook and I will admit, I feel like I am sometimes sucked into this world of social media. The documentary mainly focusses on the dangers of social networking and how it is impacting the world today. Focussing on how social media is addictive and people get completely engrossed in it. The people being interviewed during the program are people from the giant tech firms. From what I learned, they were saying that everything Is click bait and there are so many algorithms finding out what they think you lik...

Describing you and your practise

Wednesday 16th September  Describing you and your practise  I thought I would start my journey by finding out some definitions… What is a practitioner ? noun a person engaged in the practice of a profession, occupation, etc. eg. a medical practitioner. a person who practices something specified. https://www.dictionary.com/browse/practitioner -someone who works in a job  that involves long training  and high levels of skill: ‘He has years  of experience  as a senior  practitioner in the financial service industry.' https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/practitioner What is a practise ? -verb (used with or without object), prac·tised, prac·tis·ing. https://www.dictionary.com/browse/practise?s=t -To do or play  something regularly  or repeatedly  in order  to become skilled  at it: 'I'm quite  good at tennis  but I need to practise my serve.' 'She practises the violin  everyday' -'His written French...

Welcome Skype 11th September 3pm

I am writing this straight after coming off from the Introduction Welcome Skype with some fellow BAPP students and the supervisors.  I attended the 11th September 3pm meeting. A few things that kept coming up during the discussion was how the course is going to be such a learning journey. The supervisor said to “Respect the process”. I think this is something I am maybe going to initially struggle with, as I like structure and answers and I think this course is going to be more about asking questions and exploring ideas… I wrote down three key words  1.Question    2. Explore.   3. Reflection  Don’t get frustrated by the supervisors questioning your ideas as they are trying to get you to explore more and think about things you haven’t yet discovered. This is a process not a black and white / right or wrong answer. Explore ideas; you have to keep blogging to connect with other students and share your thoughts and find some new questions. This is going to b...

Now where to start?

I am feeling very overwhelmed, but excited writing my first blog and starting this degree… It has been quite a few years since I have academically challenged myself like this… However I am feeling ready for this new chapter. Let me introduce myself…. My name is Emily Smith and I am 27 years old. ‘It’s true; there really is no business, like show business.’ Performing Arts has been my passion since a very young age and I have been fortunate enough to be a working professional performer. The perseverance, fulfilment and exhilaration felt during rehearsals and the thrill after a show, are feelings I thrive on. I have spent the last 6 years of my life along side my fiancĂ©, as a professional dancer/vocalist performing on Royal Caribbean International and Princess Cruise lines. My past two contracts I was promoted to Dance Captain and had the responsibility of managing the cast and ensuring that they were keeping the integrity of the shows and performing the productions to the best of their/...
